Avner Geller
Avner Geller is an animation artist whose work spans the full arc of visual storytelling, from world-building on major studio features to intimate independent films and the printed page. He's currently Production Designer on an upcoming Sony Pictures Animation feature, due in theaters in 2027.
Avner studied animation at Ringling College of Art and Design, where his graduation film made an immediate mark: Defective Detective, co-directed with Stevie Lewis, won the Student Academy Award for Best Animated Film and screened at festivals around the world.
The years that followed kept him at the heart of the industry, first as a Visual Development Artist at DreamWorks Animation, working on Trolls, Trolls World Tour, The Penguins of Madagascar, and more, then as Art Director at Netflix.
Beyond the studio, Avner continues to pursue work that moves him. He was Production Designer on Black Slide, a short film shortlisted for the 2023 Academy Awards, and published his first book, Things That I Hear, born from an illustration series that found a devoted following online.
Equally committed to the next generation of artists, Avner teaches character design and visual development online through Frame by Frame School and has led in-person workshops at DreamWorks, Warner Bros., and SIGGRAPH.
He lives with his family in Los Angeles.
